U11 Shine at Prestigious Hymers College Rugby 7s Tournament
Tuesday 18th March U11 Rugby 7s Tournament at Hymers College
The prestigious rugby 7s tournament at Hymers College brought together the best rugby schools from around the north, offering a fantastic opportunity for the boys to mix with their future teammates and classmates for next year. The boys travelled down on Monday evening and stayed overnight to ensure they were fresh for the competition the next day. They were a credit to the school, and the hotel’s feedback was that King’s were one of the best schools they had ever hosted, praised for their manners and politeness.
On Tuesday, the tournament began, and King’s were placed in a tough group with Pocklington, St Peters York, Scarborough, Brikdale, and Hymers 2. Despite the challenging lineup, the boys excelled, topping the group after winning four matches and drawing one. This impressive performance secured their place in the cup competition, where they faced Hill House in the quarter-finals. It was a tough and aggressive game, but King’s managed to secure a 2-1 victory.
The semi-final saw King’s up against St Peters York, a team they had drawn with in the group stages. Determined to step up their game, the boys delivered a confident 4-1 win, earning their place in the final of the cup. However, with injuries and fatigue taking their toll, the final proved to be one game too many, and King’s narrowly missed out on the trophy, finishing second in the competition.
Coming second in such a prestigious tournament is a testament to the boys’ hard work and skill. Mr Mason, Mr Cook, and Mr Hooman were all incredibly proud of the team’s performance and are excited to see how this talented group will progress through King’s Senior School.
