U8/9 CRICKET V WINTERFOLD
Mr Atkinson
Another great afternoon of cricket for out U8/9 team across at Winterfold. Our host won the toss and elected to bat. Whilst still needing some work, our bowling showed good promise, with Akshay and Poppy, in particular, getting the most consistency of line and length. In the field, Sophie showed some good skills, positioning herself well near the stumps for potential run outs. Winterfold set a good target for us to chase and we went about matching with enthusiasm, Archie H hitting some good shots to start us off. Overall, we batted well, with Gabe and Magson managing to find the boundary a few times. Needing a few runs in the last two overs, Tiegan was particularly positive with her calling and running, with partner Jeremiah.
Mr Hooman
On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, our U9/8 cricket team took to the field against Winterfold. After losing the toss, we were asked to bowl first – and what a great bowling performance it was! The whole team impressed with their consistent line and length, showing real improvement and understanding of the basics. It was particularly pleasing to see how well they maintained pressure with dot balls and smart fielding. Standout performances came from Nell H, George, and Harvey, who all bowled tightly and helped restrict Winterfold to a final total of 255.
With the bowling innings complete, we turned our focus to the chase. Our batters showed good discipline, leaving wide deliveries to gain bonus runs, and it was great to see thoughtful decisions made at the crease. A helpful adjustment to the match saw any batters who hadn’t faced many hittable deliveries given a chance to face a coach-fed ball – ensuring everyone had a fair opportunity to contribute.
Daniel and Daisy batted with confidence, with Daniel playing a beautiful shot through the leg side after taking feedback on board and applying it perfectly – a fantastic example of learning in action. Harvey and George brought us home strongly, finishing the innings with a flourish and taking our total to 299.
Miss Jordan
The U8/9 cricket team had a great afternoon up at Winterfold on Tuesday afternoon. Hugo and Charlie opened the batting confidently, scoring 24 runs in the first three overs with some well-timed shots. Archie also added valuable runs with some strong hits. Calling when to run and when to stay could haven louder and clear to keep things sharp. When it was our turn to field the team worked hard to keep the opposition’s score down. Despite our efforts, they managed to edge past us, winning by 10 runs in the end. There were some excellent moments in the field, Archie standing out by taking two wickets and being awarded bowler of the match. Also, a big well done to Charlie who was named batter of the match after a confident innings. Well done all!
U11 Cricket v Winterfold
U11’s Girls Miss Jordan
The girls showed great teamwork and skill on Wednesday afternoon. We batted first with Nell and Thea opening strongly, scoring 23 runs in the first three overs, Winterfold fought back well, taking two quick wickets. We recovered and finished on a decent total. When it was our turn to field, we took a couple of early wickets which set us up for the rest of the game. Our bowling was tight, giving away very few extras. Georgia bowled brilliantly, taking a wicket maiden. Ivy was outstanding, gaining two wickets and a catch in a single over making three wickets. It was a team effort, and everyone played their part to keep Winterfold’s batting score lower than ours. We narrowly beat Winterfold. Well done to Thea who was named best batter and Madie earned best bowler for her performance which included 2 wickets. Well done!
U11’s Boys Mr Rowley
In a thrilling fixture against Winterfold, the U10/11 cricket team delivered a superb all-round performance, showcasing excellent teamwork and camaraderie throughout. The bowling attack was excellent, with Archie B, Arlo F, and Josh B-R each claiming two wickets, applying constant pressure on the opposition. Arlo F also shone with the bat, scoring a stylish 29, while Max supported brilliantly with a well-crafted 22.
The fielding display was outstanding – Ben J took a sensational diving catch that lifted the entire team, and Ben D was exceptional in the deep, cutting off crucial runs. Wicketkeeping duties were shared impressively between Will B and Harry D, both showing quick reflexes and smart glove work. Every player contributed with energy and spirit, making it a true team effort. The unity and support among the squad made for an enjoyable and successful afternoon of cricket. Well done to all involved!
