WEEKLY SPORTS ROUND-UP 18.05.18

U9 Rounders Festival @ Winterfold

I took a very excited group of Year 3 girls to their first Rounders Festival on Tuesday. They were in fine voice on the bus, singing all the way there and back. We played 3 matches in total, in the glorious sunshine in the very scenic setting of Winterfold House. They played extremely well, beating Winterfold and Hawford and losing to RGS The Grange. Stephanie bowled accurately throughout the afternoon, Pari and Anna both did well at backstop and second post. Amelia was our top scorer for the afternoon, scoring 3 rounders. They especially enjoyed the hot dog and cake out on the grass after the game.

U9 Rounders v RGS Springfield

The U9 girls played their second game of rounders on Tuesday afternoon. They elected to bat and there were some super rounders from Lily, Sophia, Phoebe and Pia. There were also some excellent runs to second post to gain the vital half rounders. Bowling was excellent from Martha, it had a nice pace and length on the ball. We fielded well but had some work to do in the field as Springfield had a couple of excellent hitters. All in all the match was very close although we lost 12-16. Well done girls, you are much more experienced and have made vast improvements from your first match.

U8 Rounders v RGS Springfield

The U8s played their first ever rounders match on Tuesday afternoon. They batted first and made great effort in trying to hit the ball. Molly made an excellent run for 4th post with some mis-fielding by Springfield and gained us a half rounder. Olivia hit it behind and with a little help from the umpire ran onto second post as Springfield threw it and continued all the way round to score a vital rounder for her team! Many of the girls had a go at bowling and this is definitely an area we need to work on. They found it quite tricky to bowl it at the right height and distance to the opposing batter. However they all had a lovely afternoon with tea under the trees despite not winning. Well done girls!

U10 A Cricket v The Downs

Report will be included in next week's round-up.

U10 B Cricket v The Downs

The Year 5 B cricket team played against The Downs Malvern on a pleasant sunny Wednesday afternoon down at the fields. They were put into bat first by their opponents but St Alban's started well with Freddie F batting very impressively, hitting 18 before being ran out. The boys eventually finished on 86/4 after 20 overs. It was then our turn to bowl. Freddie F and Charlie A opened the bowling and kept The Downs scoring to a minimum, taking a few wickets in the mean time. Another stand out performance with the ball was George M. He bowled 2 overs, taking 3 wickets after two wonderful catches from Solomon U and Eddie C. Every player who bowled for St Alban's did an excellent job, keeping The Downs run chase to 63/7 after the 20 overs. Man of the match has got to go to Freddie F, who batted with confidence, playing some wonderful shots which found the boundary on several occasions. Freddie also bowled 4 overs in the match, giving away only one run and also taking a wicket.

Year 5 & 6 Swimming Gala v RGS The Grange

Our final Year 5 and 6 gala of the year was a huge success. With a team that was slightly reduced in number, due to the Old Chapel Camp, everyone performed brilliantly, including those who were swimming different strokes or in a different team to normal. Our A team came 1st with a massive 104 points and won all but 2 of their races. Our B team came 2nd. Thank you Year 6 for all of your effort and enthusiasm over the years we hope that you will continue to enjoy your swimming as you move up to the Senior school.
