ESSA Swimming Finals

This event was a culmination of a fantastic year of swimming by the Year 6 pupils. It was with great delight that we found out on the way to the event that our boys had qualified for the Medley Relay. So, two races for both teams. These children have been dedicated to their swimming throughout their time at St Alban’s. Some have swum at club and continued their success beyond the school’s competitions. It is worth noting that three of our competitors are not club swimmers but have been going to Mrs Woodger’s Saturday morning sessions.

Our girls swam first in their Freestyle heat and qualified for the B Final. In the Final they came second with a team best of 1:02:32. The boys then qualified for the B Final in the Medley Relay. They came fourth with a team best of 1:11:82. Our girls then qualified for the Medley Relay A Final and our boys qualified for the Freestyle Relay A Final. Both teams swam their socks off and both are now 6th in the country for these events!

U8&9 Girls Cricket v Winterfold

All the under 8 and 9 girls went to Winterfold on Tuesday afternoon for matches looking to progress their skills throughout the field. It was nice to field teams made up of a mix of the two year groups, with the older ones able to provide advice for their year 3 partners. We saw massive improvements in the bowling with the number of no balls and wides decreasing, whilst being backed up with consistent fielding. Our target for the next fixtures are to take advantage of the runs available to us and watching the ball on to the bat. Well done to all involved, especially for braving the rain!

Swimming Gala v Warwick & Solihull

This was a first for St Alban's and a amasing experience for the 58 children participating. We did wander how they would fit so many children and parents into their pool but they did. Having so many children poolside was a logistical nightmare and with the races being set off quickly in succession Mrs Woodger did a fantastic job getting the right pupils in the right place at the right time. We definitely had some nervous pupils on pool side but the children all swam brilliantly and  we were a very proud of them all.
