WEEKLY SPORTS ROUND-UP 23.03.18

Sports Relief

Throughout the week we have enjoyed seeing the children getting involved in a number of fun activities. On Monday we started with a netball shoot out for all the children and were amazed at Year 5 Wilson House, when they scored a grand total of 20 goals. On Tuesday we had children showing us their hula-hooping skills. On Thursday it was great to see Mr Chapman start the day off with his aerobics class, with all the children in their own sportswear on the playground. At break time the children gave us a lesson on how to do the 'Floss' and then some staff gave them a demonstration on how to do the ‘grape-vine’.

ESSA Swimming Gala

We went to Malvern College on Tuesday for the ESSA Primary Schools Team Relay Championships.  We took 17 Year 5 & 6 pupils to compete in the event and we were very pleased with their performance. This event is all dependent on times, so until all the other divisional events have been completed we have no results.  We will cross our fingers and hope we qualify for the finals on the 16th June in Sheffield.

U10 RGS Football Tournament

The U10s performed well in windy conditions at RGS The Grange. The boys played good passing football all afternoon and showcased some of their best link-up play all term. Unfortunately they struggled to finish in the final third, however they defended well all tournament. The highlight was an exciting penalty shootout to finish the 5th and 6th place play-off. Outstanding work in goal by Eddie throughout, and well captained by Freddie.

Netball v The Elms

U11 v The Elms and King’s Hawford

In their final matches for St Alban’s the Year 6 girls produced two incredible performances against resilient opposition. They produced a stunning comeback to narrowly win 4-3 against the Elms, Georgia proving crucial in attack and being given man of the match. Against Hawford Lola and Emilia showed their promise to keep their attack at bay persistently, with the attackers taking their chances to come away victorious again. Finally, thank you to the parents for their continued, positive support this season, it's greatly appreciated by all!

U10 A v The Elms & King’s Hawford

The girls played on astro, a new experience for them for netball. After a few minutes getting used to the new surface the girls dug in and played one of the best games of netball I have seen from their age group. They passed well maintaining possession for much of the game. Player of the match was Fen, a well-deserved title. Final score KSA 9, The Elms 0.

The girls were all fired up to play their last match of the season against Hawford. Unfortunately the game did not go their way. The game start as a closely fought contest with most of the centre passes being converted to goas. However just before half time Hawford managed to gain possession and they converted it into a goal. By half time we were trailing 3-5. After a team talk, the girls went out fighting. Despite their best efforts they were unable to make up the difference and we lost 4-9. Bea was awarded player of the match for her never-ending determination around the court as centre, well done!

Year 3 & 4 Swimming Gala v Abberley

Year 3 and 4 had an exciting trip to Abberley Hall to swim in our inaugural away fixture. All the children can be very proud of themselves as they swam brilliantly. We finished the competition with a large canon that included every team member. It was a thrilling end to an excellent afternoon of swimming. The gala finished 73-72 to Abberley Hall.
