Weekly Sports Round-Up: Triumphs and Teamwork

This week at KSA, our pupils showcased their skills, teamwork, and determination across a range of sports events. Our athletes demonstrated their hard work and school spirit at every turn. Here’s a look at the highlights and achievements from another action-packed week of sports.

Tuesday 11th February Year 3 Fliers Netball Festival hosted by St Alban’s

On Tuesday, St Alban’s proudly hosted a Year 3 Fliers Netball Festival. Despite the dull weather, the atmosphere was electric as our girls eagerly took part in a fun-filled afternoon of sport. The warm-up, led by Mr. Rowley and Miss Sly, set the tone for an exciting and energetic event.

At these festivals, our focus is on enjoyment, teamwork, and the opportunity for children to interact with peers from other schools. From the cheerful game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ to decide who starts with the ball to the much anticipated ‘Three Cheers’ and ‘Player of the Match’ at the end, the spirit of sportsmanship was evident throughout the afternoon. The matches were played in great spirits, with umpires actively coaching both teams, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for all. We were delighted with the performances and enthusiasm of all our girls.

The festival concluded with all the girls coming together to enjoy refreshments—a perfect way to round off a successful and memorable afternoon. Well done to everyone who took part!

Tuesday 11th February – U9/8 Football v RGS The Grange

On Tuesday afternoon, the U9/8 teams hosted RGS The Grange at the King’s Cinderella ground. The standard of football is growing from week to week, and the players are working hard in games to improve certain aspects of their game. In the first game, Monty R was named Man of the Match for his strength, discipline, and positioning. He played well in defence, maintained the correct shape, and communicated effectively with his teammates.

Harvey M was the Man of the Match in the second game. He travelled with the ball well and captained the side brilliantly, showcasing excellent leadership skills. In the third game, Archie H earned the Man of the Match title. He got fully stuck in, made some good tackles, and dribbled well with the ball.

Overall, it has been a good half-term of football with lots of children out there enjoying their football. There will be plenty more competitive games next half-term.

Wednesday 12th FebruaryU11 Football v Winterfold and Moor Park – Mr Jenkinson

The Year 6 boys travelled to Winterfold School on Wednesday afternoon to play two football matches against Winterfold and Moor Park.

With regular A team starters, Thea and Nell playing for their own Year 5 team, there were a few changes to the U11 A team, with Ben F stepping in admirably to secure the midfield. A valiant effort in their first match against a strong Winterfold team resulted in a tight match that ended 2-0, with Harry commanding his defence of Arlo and Ben J confidently and effectively from his goal. Archie, Charles and Will all tackled well and made good runs with the ball, whilst Oscar was a continuous threat in attack. After a narrow loss in their first match, the boys were straight back on and determined to finish the half term with a victory against Moor Park. Their hard work paid off as Charles rounded off a strong run with the ball to score a well taken goal, before another great team goal was finished off by Will, who had looked threatening all afternoon. The match finished with a deserved 2-0 win, which they very kindly dedicated to Mr. Jenkinson, as it was his birthday. The football didn’t stop there though, as Harry, Archie, Ben F and Oscar all volunteered to play for Moor Park, in their match against Winterfold, with Harry gaining some valuable outfield play! This was a great afternoon of football, with some excellent sportsmanship, passion and teamwork skills all evident throughout both matches. Well done to; Archie, Arlo, Ben F, Ben J, Charles, Harry, Oscar and Will, who all represented St. Alban’s extremely well.

U11 Football v Winterfold and Moor Park – Mr Rowley

The U11B team put in a fantastic performance against Winterfold and Moor Park, showing great teamwork and determination. Freddy H was in top form, scoring three excellent goals with clinical finishing. Uriah G played a key role in the attack, providing crucial assists and creating chances for his teammates. In defence, George C was solid throughout, making vital tackles and keeping the opposition at bay. The whole team worked hard, displaying great energy and skill across both matches. A brilliant effort from all the players, showcasing their progress and teamwork.

 U10 Football v Winterfold – Mr Hooman

It was great to see the U10s in action on Wednesday afternoon, and they demonstrated some impressive skills throughout the game. Henry I played brilliantly in goal, showcasing his speed off the line to close down the angle for shots and pulling off some fantastic saves. Thea and Nell were solid in defence and worked extremely well together, forming a strong partnership at the back. Max played through the middle and bossed the game, scoring a well-deserved goal. Ben and Joshua played wide in midfield and did well at beating their opponents and dribbling into the opposition half.

Zack was excellent upfront, working extremely hard to create a number of chances. He used his footballing brain and strength to fend off the defenders effectively. Overall, there were many positives to take from the game. We had a lot of chances, and if we had put these chances away, it could have been a different outcome. The Player of the Match was Thea for her outstanding performance in defence.

U11 Team Netball Match Report v Malvern St James – Miss Jordan

On Wednesday afternoon, the U11 girls had a wonderful afternoon of netball up at MSJ. The A team started well, bringing the ball nicely up the court and at quarter time we were 5-0 up. We did do some swapping around between teams to change positions and to see different combinations of players. It seems that they have all been practising their shooting. Many goals were going in. A team were 12-1 up at half time. The B team were similar, a lot of goals scored and some excellent attacking and defending. All were clean with footwork although occasionally passing could have been more accurate. I would also like to see the girls use the 3 seconds to enable the ball to move further up the court rather than just throw it straight back before the player has had time to move ahead of the ball. This will come with more practice. Final scores: A team 18-4 to KSA, B team 13-1. Well done to Sophia and Yifei who were awarded ‘Player of the Match’ of their respective matches.

U10/11 C Team Netball Match Report v Malvern St James – Mrs Clark

On Wednesday, the girls travelled to Malvern St James to compete in an exciting Stingers netball match. To ensure everyone had the chance to experience all positions, we played five 5-minute sessions.

Right from the start, we were impressed by their defensive skills, with some excellent interceptions that kept the game dynamic and competitive. After the first session, we encouraged the team to focus on maintaining possession and handling the ball with care. They responded brilliantly, taking more time to make thoughtful decisions and passing with greater accuracy.

Their shooting skills were equally impressive, with the team scoring an outstanding 11 goals over the course of the match. Romi and Martha were excellent in the attacking circle, shooting well but also working the circle well to get into good shooting positions. Millie and Ivy marked their opponent very well and did some excellent interceptions to turn over the possession. Ariya was awarded ‘Player of the match’ for her endless energy on court throughout the game.

It was an excellent performance, showcasing a real team effort and strong progress in their gameplay. Well done to all involved!

U10/11 D Team Netball Match Report v Malvern St James – Miss Jordan

The girls had a wonderful afternoon up at MSJ. They started well with 2 goals and were up 2-0 at half time. MSJ came back with another 2 goals and so it was 2 all for a quarter. However, MSJ were on point with their shooting and popped another 3 into the net. Final score 2-5 to MSJ. I was very impressed with all 5 girls. They all defended well trying to jump for the ball when it was passed and there was a lot of good, accurate passing. Well done to Hannah who was awarded player of the match, for her never-ending determination. Well done, all!
