King's St Alban's
19 May
A wetland adventure for Pre-Prep pupils.
On Tuesday, children in Reception and Year One at King’s St Alban’s came together for an exciting adventure to the Slimbridge Wetland Centre. With a myriad of activities and things to explore, they were in for a truly educational but enjoyable day.
After a reasonably lengthy journey aboard the bus, the enthusiastic children were ready for adventure, and spent the morning walking around and exploring the centre, looking at different birds. They were delighted to meet so many new-born ducklings and geese. There was great fascination when looking at the flamingos, and questions as to why they were pink and how they managed to stand on one leg all day, which prompted the children to see how long they could all stand on one leg!
As one would hope in the Summer Term, children and staff alike were delighted to sit outside in the glorious sunshine for lunch. Having devoured the packed lunches, the group was greeted by a team of experts from the centre who taught the children the art of pond-dipping. Everyone had a go at finding fish, water snails and many more pond creatures with their fishing nets . The children then looked at some of the creatures through a magnifying glass, which they loved doing, before carefully putting the wildlife back into the pond.
Next up, the children went to the welly park, where they played in a beautiful outdoor space, with paddling water running around the play areas; this was very exciting for all the children, as they had the opportunity to climb, bounce, swing and splash in the water! Fortunately the weather was on our side and the wet feet and a few soggy children on the way back to school didn’t spoil any enjoyment of what was a really super day! Well done to Reception and Year One children for once again being true King’s St Alban’s ambassadors.
