Woodland adventures for Reception

Reception enjoyed a woodland adventure last week, spending an enjoyable morning at Worcester Woods. The children were excited to explore a forest different from the one at school. Excitement was high as the children boarded the minibus under the shining sun. On arrival the children were kitted out in wellies and waterproofs, ready to explore.

The fun kicked off with a treasure hunt around the Woodland Walk. The children worked hard to spot everything on their list and managed to find oak leaves, flowers, squirrels and birds, but didn’t manage to spot any insects. There were plenty of opportunities to stop and explore. The children also tested out their balancing skills, demonstrating bravery and coordination.

After a snack and a drink, it was time for the playground! The children loved playing with their friends and they even had time for the big slide before they departed. The children arrived back muddy and tired but very happy. They were all beautifully behaved, were polite to everyone we met in the forest and a credit to the school. It was brilliant to get off site and explore a thoroughly new area. The children revelled in the freedom the woodland provided and the staff relished watching the children enjoy the new surroundings. Learning Outside the Classroom is an important part of the curriculum and on trips like this pupils are able to get hands on, reinforcing their learning.
