World Mental Health Day – Hello Yellow!
The playground was awash with brightly coloured clothes on Monday morning. Pupils from King’s St Alban’s joined thousands of schools, offices and communities across the United Kingdom and took part in #HelloYellow (World Mental Health Day). This national event encouraged people to wear an item of yellow clothing to raise vital funds for Young Minds, a charity which fights for young people’s mental health. With record numbers of children and young people seeking help and support with their mental health, many of them are not receiving the support and treatment they need. Waiting lists are at an all-time high, and growing, with young people being made to feel that their feelings aren’t important. Young Minds is determined to change this.
Children at King’s St Alban’s embraced the challenge of finding a small item of yellow to wear to support this charity. Everyone looked great in clothing which included a yellow swimming hat, bright yellow socks, hair ribbons, jumpers and so much more. With mental health and well-being central to our daily lives at King’s St Alban’s, the children were delighted to show their support for #HelloYellow; it also brightened up our playground on a somewhat chilly October morning!
Donating £2 to take part, King’s St Alban’s has raised at total of £250 for this extremely worthwhile charity. All funds raised will help Young Minds to provide ongoing mental health advice to children and young people as well as those adults who are currently supporting them. Young Minds will also use funds to campaign for the support and services needed.
Young Minds is one of a number of charities King’s St Alban’s will be supporting over the course of the academic year. Please keep an eye out on our social media channels for future events and activities.
