Wormy Spaghetti for Year 2 Bringing Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’ to Life

Year 2 have been having enormous fun bringing Roald Dahl’s The Twits to life by creating their very own version of the famous “wormy spaghetti.” This imaginative activity combined storytelling, creativity and sensory exploration and quickly became a firm favourite with the class. The adventure began in Forest School, where pupils excitedly hunted for items to add to their spaghetti. As they explored the outdoor area, they worked together, shared their discoveries and talked enthusiastically about what they might include in Mr Twit’s revolting recipe.

The spaghetti was poured from a great height into a giant colander, much to everyone’s delight! Pupils then had the chance to feel the warm, cooked spaghetti and break it up with their hands, giggling as they explored the slippery texture. One by one, pupils added their chosen ingredients, carefully describing them in rich detail. There were pinches of crunchy, grainy bird seed, drizzles of purple paint and even handfuls of hard, black spiders! Finally, a giant spoon was used to mix the spaghetti together, creating a truly gruesome dish fit for Mr Twit himself.

It was wonderful to see such excitement, imagination and descriptive language as pupils brought the story to life. A fantastically fun and creative way to explore literature well done Year 2!
