Year 1 Discover the Fun of Measuring!
This week, Year 1 embarked on an exciting hands-on maths investigation as they explored the concepts of length and height using non-standard units of measurement.
During their lesson, the children were encouraged to think creatively about how to measure everyday objects around the classroom. Using items such as paper clips, cubes, and lolly sticks, they worked together to compare and record the sizes of different objects. They quickly discovered that different measuring tools produced different results, leading to interesting discussions about why consistency in measurement is important.
The activity not only helped to develop their mathematical thinking but also fostered collaboration, problem-solving skills, and curiosity. The children thoroughly enjoyed their practical learning experience, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they measured, compared, and discussed their findings.
Well done, Year 1, for your fantastic exploration of measurement!
