Year 1 Explore Alternative Tales in ‘Once Upon a Time’
Year 1 have been having a wonderful time exploring alternative versions of traditional tales as part of their topic, ‘Once Upon a Time’. This week, their focus has been on different takes on The Three Little Pigs, and the children have been full of surprises and creative ideas!
One story in particular captured their imaginations: in this version, the wolf was not big and bad at all, but had simply caught a very bad cold and accidentally sneezed the pigs’ houses down! The children were fascinated by this unexpected twist and it sparked lots of lively discussion about how stories can be told in different ways.
Building on this, the children have been putting their writing skills to fantastic use. They designed their own wanted posters to find the wolf, carefully including adjectives to make their descriptions vivid. They also wrote apology letters from the wolf to the pigs, practising their sentence structure, punctuation, and imaginative thinking.
The creative fun didn’t stop there, the children also produced some truly impressive wolf-themed artwork, showing their flair for design and storytelling through art.
We are incredibly proud of Year 1 for their enthusiasm, creativity, and growing writing skills. Their curiosity and imagination have made this topic an absolute joy to teach. Well done, Year 1 keep up the fantastic work!
