Year 1 Explore, Discover and Create

Year 1 have enjoyed another exciting week of learning, with plenty of opportunities to explore new ideas, get creative and put their problem-solving skills to the test!

In Phonics, the children have been introduced to split digraphs, exploring how these special letter patterns create long vowel sounds. They have enjoyed sounding out and blending a range of words, building their confidence as they continue their reading journey.

In Topic, the children discovered the fascinating world of igloos, exploring how people can keep warm in houses made from ice and snow. To bring their learning to life, they even had a go at making their own igloo using giant white marshmallows! It was a wonderfully imaginative way to explore this unusual type of home.

Maths has been full of hands-on discovery, as the children have been exploring part-whole models within 10 and beginning to investigate fact families. Their trusty class conkers came in handy once again, providing a practical way to explore how numbers can be combined and separated in different ways. The children enjoyed experimenting with different combinations and discovering the connections between number sentences.

There has also been wonderful progress in music, with the children’s violin playing continuing to develop. It is lovely to see their growing confidence as they practise their skills and become more familiar with their instruments.

From phonics and number facts to marshmallow igloos and music, Year 1 have embraced every opportunity to learn with curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm. Well done Year 1!
