Year 1 Get Creative with Collage

As part of their Art lessons this term, Year 1 have been exploring the work of the famous artist Henri Rousseau. They learned about his distinctive style, particularly his imaginative jungle scenes filled with rich colours, layered textures and hidden animals.

Inspired by Rousseau’s painting ‘Surprised!’, the children created their own vibrant jungle collages. They carefully selected and arranged different materials to build up layers of foliage, before adding a striking tiger stalking its prey, just like in the original artwork. This creative process allowed pupils to experiment with texture, composition and colour, while developing their cutting and sticking skills.

It was wonderful to see the children’s creativity and attention to detail shine through in their work. Each piece was unique and full of character, capturing the spirit of Rousseau’s style.

Well done Year 1 your artwork looked absolutely fantastic!
