Year 1 Scientists at Work

Year 1 have had a fantastic start to their science learning this week. The children have been busy exploring the idea that all objects are made from different materials, and they are beginning to recognise and name some of the most common ones we use in our everyday lives.

With great curiosity, the children became “material detectives,” investigating the classroom and the playground to find out what different objects are made from. They had lots of fun discovering that their tables are made from wood, windows from glass, and even noticing how many things around them are made of plastic or metal.

It was wonderful to see their excitement as they shared their findings and compared the materials they had spotted. This hands-on exploration not only helped them to learn scientific vocabulary but also encouraged them to look more closely at the world around them.

Year 1 are already showing fantastic scientific thinking, and we can’t wait to see how their curiosity continues to grow over the term!
