Year 1 Set Sail with “The Night Pirates”

This week Year 1 have been diving into their exciting topic, ‘Adventures of the Sea’, and this week their Creative Writing lesson took them on a thrilling literary voyage! The class read The Night Pirates by Peter Harris, a delightful tale about Tom, a brave little boy who joins a crew of girl pirates on a daring night time adventure to steal treasure from some rather lazy and comical grown-up pirates.

The story sparked lively discussions, giving the children the chance to share what they’ve been learning about pirates in their humanities lessons. Inspired by the book, they were then set an imaginative challenge: to create their very own pirate character for a Wanted poster. The classroom buzzed with creativity as pupils invented a wide range of swashbuckling characters, from the fearsome Captain Dragonspit to the kind-hearted Captain Emily Golden Plaits. The children carefully crafted their descriptions, using rich adjectives and colourful language to bring their pirates to life.

It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and imagination shine through, along with their growing confidence as writers. Well done, Year 1, your pirate tales are truly treasure-worthy!
