Year 2 assembly showcases linguistic skills
Year 2 rounded off a superb term with a fantastic class French Assembly where they proudly showed off their mastery of the language! At King’s St Alban’s pupils begin their language journey in our nursery and continue lessons throughout their time and King’s St Alban’s and King’s Senior. At King’s St Alban’s we are lucky to have two experienced language teachers: Mrs Stenson and Mrs Kilbey. Both take great delight in teaching pupils to learn French.

Research in Early Years development shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. Children proficient in other languages also show signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility.

Performing to a full audience in the Pre-Prep Hall, our Year 2 children performed a selection of songs in French. All of the songs were themed around food including breakfast and the life of a pizza. The children expertly delivered two familiar stories; Cher Zoo (Dear Zoo) and Le Petit Bonhomme de Pain D’épice (The Gingerbread Man).

They spoke confidently and clearly showcasing how far their language skills have progressed this year. Some of these children have been learning French since Nursery. It is wonderful to see them gaining confidence in their linguistic skills. From this assembly it is clear to see that all of the children thoroughly enjoy their French lessons.

Year 2 finished the assembly by reciting the Lord’s Prayer in perfect French. The audience were suitably impressed. It was a magnificent performance by a group of very confident children. Well done Year 2!
