Year 2 Become Owl Experts
Year 2 have been thoroughly enjoying their Guided Reading book, The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson, and have been captivated by the adventures of Plop, a young barn owl who is brave in many ways but terrified of the dark!
Their curiosity about these fascinating birds grew even further last week when the children were lucky enough to see a real barn owl during the magnificent Birds of Prey display on our trip to Warwick Castle. Seeing this beautiful bird up close sparked lots of questions and inspired the children to find out more.
This week, the children became owl investigators, taking on the challenge of researching these amazing creatures. Using iPads and books, they explored a wealth of information, discovering more about barn owls, their habitats, diets and distinctive features. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they followed their curiosity, asked questions and developed their research skills.
To share their discoveries, the children carefully organised their findings into their own owl fact files, presenting their new knowledge in a clear and engaging way. They did a fantastic job of combining their reading, research and writing skills to bring their learning to life!
Well done, Year 2! We are so impressed by your curiosity, enthusiasm and growing knowledge of these wonderful birds.
