Year 2 Explore Place Value in Maths
Year 2 have had an exciting week in maths, diving into the world of place value! The children have been exploring numbers using place value charts, learning to think carefully about how many tens and ones each number contains.
Working in pairs, the pupils used base 10 equipment to represent numbers in the charts, discussing their ideas and helping each other understand the concepts. They also practised partitioning numbers, breaking them down into tens and ones to see the structure of each number more clearly.
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic, collaborating and sharing their thinking with their partners. Many of them were able to explain their reasoning with confidence, demonstrating a strong understanding of place value and how it helps with calculations.
Year 2 are developing not only their mathematical skills but also their teamwork and problem-solving abilities, making for a very productive and enjoyable week of learning!
