Year 2 Explore Inspirational People from the Past

This week, Year 2 begun an exciting new history topic focused on Inspirational People from the Past. To kick this off, we decided to explore the life of a local historical figure, starting with a visit to Worcester city centre to see the Edward Elgar statue.

Despite the drizzly weather, the children were full of enthusiasm as we made our way to the statue. Before the visit, not many of them knew who Edward Elgar was, but their curiosity quickly grew as we read the inscription on the statue. The children were eager to learn more about this famous figure and were particularly interested in why his statue had been placed in the heart of Worcester.

After reading the plaque in front of the statue, we discovered fascinating details about Elgar’s life and achievements. This sparked even more questions from the children, who are now excited to delve deeper into his story in our next history lesson. Together, we brainstormed some insightful questions that we would like to explore further, and we’re looking forward to uncovering more about Edward Elgar’s life and legacy.
