Year 2 Take Flight With The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark

This term, Year 2 have been thoroughly enjoying their Guided Reading text, The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. Inspired by Plop’s charming adventures, the children have been hard at work planning and writing an entirely new chapter for the story and what a creative journey it has been!

Using the structure and style of the chapters we have read together, each child imagined a brand-new character for Plop to meet, as well as an exciting new setting for him to explore. The class thought carefully about the lessons their character would teach Plop about the dark, drawing on the themes of courage, curiosity and kindness that run through the book.

The variety of ideas was wonderful to see, from magical nighttime helpers to mysterious moonlit creatures and every child embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and imagination. Their writing has been thoughtful, descriptive and full of personality, and it has been a joy to watch their ideas take flight.

A fantastic effort from all of Year 2!
