Year Three Assembly celebrates National Days

On Thursday, 3A held their class assembly in the Chapel.  The rest of the school were treated to facts about the topics of national days such as “National Fish and Chip Day”, “National Cheese Day”, “World Knit in Public Day”, “Global Beatles Day” and “World Sea Turtle Day”.

We learned that Wensleydale cheese had experienced a worrying decrease in sales, but the Wallace and Gromit films saved the cheese when sales shot up due to Wallace’s love of Wensleydale! The audience also found out that knitting can be seen as a healthy activity:  not only can it relieve stress, improve motor function and prevent arthritic diseases, it also burns calories!

Mrs Atkinson had also asked her class to imagine that they had a day named after themselves, and then to think about what sort of things people would do on that day to celebrate each of them. We heard about Cerys’s “World Difference Day”, Ben’s “Good Day”, Kasvika’s “Pet Day”, Martha’s “Be Fun and Kind Day” and finally Alban’s “Bourbon (biscuit) Day”! The children talked about how many of us like the same things, but that there are also specific things that make us unique.  Edith told the audience how it is important to be confident in who we are as individuals and, although we will have similar likes and dislikes to others, we must not be afraid to stand out from the crowd and be ourselves.

The children had decorated letters with all their favourite things and the letters spelt out, “We are all unique”.

Assembly finished with the prayer below:

Dear God

Thank you for the opportunities you have given us to learn and experience new things.

Help us to understand that, although we have many things in common, we are all individuals with different likes and dislikes, and difference should be celebrated.

As we move into the summer holidays and then into our new classes in September, please help us to be kind and loving people, and listen to others, whether we share the same views or not.

Help us to be kind and caring friends, even when we may not always agree.

We are lucky to have so many different people in our School, and in our lives, and we are thankful for the opportunities life at KSA gives us.

Amen
