Year 3 embrace independence
This week saw our Year 3 pupils taking part in their very first off-site residential trip. The children departed school on Monday morning and spent two days and nights at the Boundless Outdoors Centre in West Malvern. During school drop off on Monday morning there were a number of anxious parents and plenty of excited children. This trip is a rite of passage for our Year 3 pupils and their parents.
Accompanied by Mr Stigant, Mrs Horrocks, Miss Collins and Miss Crowe, the children soon departed from school. They spent two action-packed days exploring all of the amazing facilities at the Outdoors Centre. In groups, the children tackled an array of different activities including a zip wire, climbing, archery, low ropes and a woodland walk.
The children were encouraged to embrace the independence that the trip provided and were responsible for making up their own beds on arrival and putting together their own breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The children were well fed and the fish fingers and chips on the first night proved very popular.
On the first night, Year 3 got a brilliant view of sunset from the Malvern Hills. They even managed to squeeze in a quick game of Stuck in the Mud. On the second night the children were treated to a film. The staff were incredibly grateful that the children slept well on both nights!
The grey and drizzly weather certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the children, who all showed great resilience during the trip. The bright red waterproof suits worked well to fend off the rain and hopefully protected the children’s clothes!
The children were extremely well behaved and acted as great ambassadors for the School. The trip was an excellent opportunity to focus on some Growth Mindset words, including bravery and teamwork.
