Year 3 Get Chatty with Teddy Bears: Learning to Write Dialogue

This week, Year 3 had a fantastic time practising how to write dialogue correctly, focusing on the important rules for using speech marks and punctuation. To make learning fun and interactive, they teamed up in pairs for a unique activity: having ‘teddy bear conversations’.

Each pair imagined a day out at the beach and used their soft toys to role-play a lively conversation. This hands-on approach helped the children understand where to place speech marks, how to punctuate sentences properly, and how to structure dialogue so it reads naturally.

The excitement of involving their teddy bears brought the writing exercise to life, turning what could be a tricky grammar lesson into an enjoyable storytelling adventure. The children practised speaking and writing with confidence, all while developing their understanding of punctuation and sentence flow.

It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and creativity as Year 3 combined play with learning. This imaginative activity not only reinforced key writing skills but also encouraged teamwork and communication, skills that will benefit them in all areas of their learning journey!
