Year 3 Shine a Light on Science
Year 3 have moved onto a new science topic all about ‘Light and Shadows’. The children have been full of curiosity, with lots of questions about why things are the way they are!
They discovered the word ‘bioluminescence’ (not pronounced ‘bioluminonsense’, although Mrs Atkinson said this is a good way of remembering the word!). The children were fascinated by the facts that some living things can produce and emit light as a result of a chemical reaction. They also talked about how the sun is our main natural source of light. This led them to go slightly off-piste, looking at the Sun compared to other stars and planets, leading to some quite deep and philosophical ponderings about the universe, multiverse and life on other planets!
The children are looking forward to discovering more about shadows and carrying out some investigations during the last few weeks of the year (fingers crossed for some sun, needed for one of the investigations into shadows!).
