Year 3’s Action-Packed Residential Trip to Oaker Wood

Our Year 3 children arrived at school full of excitement and ready for their much-anticipated residential trip to Oaker Wood. As soon as we arrived, their eagerness was clear, they couldn’t wait to get to camp, find out which groups they were in, and explore their cozy pods!

The adventure kicked off with the Woodland Krypton Trail, a series of 15 challenges along a woodland path. The children tackled activities like Roller Ball, Tangrams, Quoits, the Giant Spider’s Web, the Domino Challenge, and many more. It was an exciting way to start the trip, and everyone worked together to overcome each challenge.

After working up an appetite, the children returned to camp for a much-needed lunch, they worked in teams to make pizzas from scratch. Taking turns, they followed instructions to create the dough and then added their favourite toppings, resulting in delicious pizzas that they proudly enjoyed!

The afternoon brought the Low Ropes Challenge, a fun and slightly nerve-wracking assault course set amongst the trees. The children worked together to navigate the course, encouraging and supporting each other, and they completed the challenges with great teamwork and determination. After dinner and some well-deserved downtime, the children gathered around the fire to toast marshmallows, play games, and sing songs. As the night settled in, they eventually went to sleep after a fun-filled day of adventure!

The next morning began with an early start and a hearty breakfast to fuel everyone for the day’s activities. The children then faced the thrilling Monkey Climb, where they scaled two tall fir trees to a height of 20 metres. The higher they climbed, the more courage they needed, but the whole team worked together to ensure safety as the climbers made their way up. Following this, they enjoyed a fun-filled Zip Wire ride, soaring high through the trees and taking in the stunning views of Oaker Wood as they sped down the 100m wire. The morning continued with the Gladiator Challenge, where the children worked in pairs, taking on the climbing challenge set amongst the trees. They showed fantastic teamwork as they encouraged one another to push themselves to new heights.

After a delicious lunch, the children rounded off their time at Oaker Wood with an exhilarating game of Capture the Flag. This activity saw the teams working together, demonstrating fantastic collaboration and problem-solving skills as they helped each other secure victory.

By the end of the day, the children were tired but happy, ready for the minibus journey home, carrying with them memories of an action-packed and rewarding trip.

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Oaker Wood for making this residential trip such a memorable experience, full of challenges, laughter, and lasting memories.
