Year 4 Create Their Own Little Miss and Mr Men Stories
Year 4 have been putting their fantastic writing skills to the test in an exciting and creative new project, crafting their very own Little Miss and Mr Men books!
Building on all the techniques they’ve developed throughout the year in English, the children are now planning, drafting, and illustrating their own stories, inspired by Roger Hargreaves’ much-loved characters. This project has given them the perfect opportunity to showcase their growth as writers, as they bring their original characters and imaginative adventures to life.
From brainstorming inventive character names to writing vivid descriptions of settings and personalities, the children are applying everything they’ve learned about planning a narrative. Each story is filled with expressive vocabulary, thoughtful sentence structure, and plenty of creativity. They’ve also been using this as a chance to practise the accurate punctuation of speech adding personality to their dialogue and bringing their characters’ voices to life.
Some of the imaginative titles already in development include:
-
Mr Time – who’s never quite on schedule,
-
Little Miss Nature – who brings the outdoors to life wherever she goes,
-
Mr Spark – full of energy and bright ideas,
-
Mr Science – who turns every moment into an experiment!
The children have also become illustrators, designing colourful front covers and character portraits to accompany their stories. By the end of term, each child will have produced a beautifully bound booklet to take home, a keepsake to celebrate their writing journey this year.
This project not only consolidates their literacy learning, but also allows pupils to express their individuality, humour, and imagination. Later this term, our talented Year 4 authors will have the wonderful opportunity to share their stories with our Reception pupils. They are really looking forward to reading their books aloud and inspiring a new generation of readers with their imaginative characters and creative storytelling. Well done Year 4.
