Year 4 visit to British Base Camp

Year 4 had a lovely blustery morning up at the Celtic hill fort that is now British Camp. The children all made it up without any problem. Once they reached the top, the flat part of British camp, they pegged out and imagined a Celtic roundhouse. They then had to look for an enemy tribe (aka Mrs Hind) approaching from one of the ditches. Mrs Hind got nearly to the top before she was spotted and the children understood how effective the ditches around a Celtic hill fort were. After their picnic lunch in one of the ditches (out of the wind) they then painted each other's faces to resemble Celtic warriors, who used woad in the past. A superb morning of history!
