Year 5 Get Creative with Silly Summer Poetry

This week in English, Year 5 pupils let their imaginations run wild as they explored the world of rhyming couplets. The challenge was to write a short poem about something they didn’t do over the summer holidays, and the sillier, the better!

The classroom quickly filled with laughter and inventive ideas. Pupils came up with delightfully wacky scenarios: not having lunch with an alien, avoiding a prawn and honey sandwich, not riding a goldfish, skipping across bright stars, steering clear of skydiving, and even dodging a ticket from a traffic warden!

Alongside the fun, the children paid careful attention to spelling, punctuation, and the structure of their couplets, showing excellent focus and creativity at the same time. The results were fantastic, playful, original, and highly entertaining.

This week has shown that poetry doesn’t always have to be serious, sometimes the best writing happens when you let your imagination run a little wonderfully wild!
