Year 5 Rise to the Challenge in Collaborative Maths Investigations

This week, Year 5 pupils took part in a dynamic joint maths lesson, designed to develop their investigation skills through a series of hands-on challenges and engaging puzzles.

Working in small groups, the children tackled a variety of tasks, beginning with number pattern problems involving dice and culminating in the always-popular multiplication bowling. Each activity encouraged them to think collaboratively, communicate clearly, and apply logical reasoning to solve problems effectively.

It was a joy to see such enthusiastic discussions as pupils explored different strategies, tested their ideas, and supported one another through trial and error. Their determination, teamwork, and growing confidence in articulating mathematical thinking were evident throughout the session.

These group investigations have not only strengthened key skills but also served as fantastic preparation for next week’s exciting Foundation session with senior school maths teachers. We’re looking forward to seeing how Year 5 rise to the occasion, stretch their thinking even further, and gain a taste of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in their mathematical journey.

Well done Year 5, you’re more than ready for the next challenge!
