Year 5 Set Sail with Kensuke’s Kingdom
Year 5 have begun an exciting literary adventure in English this half term, diving into Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, which will be their focus text over the coming weeks.
The children have been developing their reading comprehension skills by exploring the difference between fact and inference. They have enjoyed looking closely at the clues within the text, using evidence to make thoughtful deductions and deepen their understanding of the characters, their motivations and the events unfolding in the story.
Alongside this, pupils have been honing their descriptive writing skills, producing some fantastic setting descriptions inspired by a coastal landscape. They worked hard to incorporate sensory imagery, drawing on all five senses to bring their scenes to life. From the sound of crashing waves and the salty sea air to the feel of sand beneath their feet, the children carefully selected vocabulary to create vivid images in the reader’s mind.
It has been a wonderful start to our work on this captivating story, and we look forward to seeing how Year 5 develop their reading, writing and storytelling skills as their adventure continues!
