Year 5’s Angle Adventures: Measuring, Investigating, and Drawing on Tables!
This week in Maths, Year 5 have been sharpening their geometry skills as they explored the world of angles through hands-on investigation and practical challenges.
Pupils built confidence identifying and classifying acute, obtuse, and right angles, before learning how to measure them accurately using protractors. They worked carefully to label their angles correctly, developing both precision and confidence. Through guided discovery, the children uncovered two key mathematical truths for themselves: that angles on a straight line add up to 180°, and that angles around a point total 360°. There was a real buzz of excitement as they pieced together these concepts through exploration and discussion.
Their curiosity led them even further, as they investigated the idea that when two straight lines intersect, the opposite angles are equal. Through drawing, measuring, and reasoning, the class explored this geometric relationship and proved it for themselves. And perhaps the most exciting part? They got to draw all over the tables, with whiteboard pens, of course! This creative and interactive approach to learning brought the topic to life and made for a memorable (and washable) maths lesson.
Well done, Year 5, for approaching your angle adventures with such enthusiasm and curiosity!
