Year 6 Bring Patterns to Life with Tone and Texture
Year 6 have been exploring the relationship between pattern, tone and texture, creating intricate designs before using pencil shading to add depth, dimension and visual interest to their work.
Pupils have been learning how to vary the pressure applied to their pencils to create different tonal values, exploring light and dark, graduated shading and the use of contrast to make elements of their designs stand out. Through building up layers of tone and considering the direction of light, they are beginning to transform flat patterns into more dynamic, three-dimensional compositions.
Next, they will take these skills into painting, exploring how colour, tone and contrast can be used to recreate and enhance the effects achieved in their pencil studies. We look forward to seeing their designs develop as they continue to experiment with different artistic techniques.
