Year 6 Creative Connexions Dance Workshop
As part of their Creative Connexions programme, Year 6 pupils took part in an exciting and inspiring dance workshop by 2Faced Dance Company. The session provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience working with an industry professional while developing their creativity, confidence and teamwork skills through movement.
From the very beginning, pupils approached the workshop with enthusiasm and determination, demonstrating excellent focus and a willingness to challenge themselves. Lew introduced the children to a variety of contemporary dance techniques, encouraging them to think carefully about how movement can be used to communicate ideas and tell a story.
Working collaboratively in pairs, pupils were challenged to create their own dance sequences. Each routine had to include movements that involved travelling under, over or around their partner, requiring careful planning, cooperation and trust. The children showed great creativity as they experimented with different ways of moving together, supporting one another to refine and improve their performances.
One of the highlights of the session was learning how to march in perfect unison, rather like storm troopers! While it may have looked simple at first, pupils quickly discovered the level of concentration, timing and teamwork required to move together precisely. Through perseverance and practice, they rose to the challenge brilliantly, showing impressive coordination and commitment.
Throughout the workshop, pupils worked incredibly hard and fully embraced the experience. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they performed their sequences and celebrated each other’s achievements. The session not only developed physical skills such as balance, control and spatial awareness, but also encouraged communication, resilience and creative expression.
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed this memorable experience, and it was a pleasure to see them engaging so positively with the arts. We look forward to seeing how they continue to build on these skills as part of their Creative Connexions journey.
