Year 6 Design with Creativity and Purpose
This term, Year 6 have stepped into the role of designers and innovators, taking on the challenge of creating imaginative solutions to support an egg, a tea light candle, or a test tube in a truly unique way.
Inspired by the work of contemporary sculptor Richard Deacon, the children first explored their ideas through careful sketchbook work, using their artistic skills to experiment with shape, form, and structure. From there, they brought their concepts into 3D, using card to trial and refine their designs.
The next step was to learn how to produce accurate elevation drawings, a key design skill that helped them plan their final creations with precision. With their prototypes and drawings complete, the children are now busy developing their finished products, combining creativity, problem-solving, and craftsmanship.
It has been wonderful to see Year 6 approaching this project with such enthusiasm and imagination. We can’t wait to share their final results, watch this space!
