Year 6 Embark on a Final Adventure to Remember
King’s Hawford’s Year 6 pupils embarked on their much-anticipated final residential to Carsington Water last week – and what a send-off it was!
Nestled in the stunning surroundings of Derbyshire near Ashbourne, this unforgettable trip marked the culmination of their outdoor education journey at King’s Hawford.
Making the most of the sunshine and scenic landscape, the children took to the waters of Carsington Water for a thrilling mix of sailing, rafting, and kayaking. Whether navigating a raft or mastering the wind in a sailboat, the group showed impressive resilience, teamwork, and a healthy sense of adventure.
Back on dry land, they pitched up at the Pax Hoe Girl Guiding site, where they put their campcraft skills to the test – erecting tents, cooking on stoves and open fires, and enjoying two nights under the stars. For many, it was a new experience, and the sense of independence and camaraderie was evident throughout.
A highlight of the trip was the visit to Ilam National Trust Park, where pupils navigated their way around the orienteering course before setting off to explore the breath-taking Dovedale Valley, complete with its iconic stepping stones. Of course, no trip would be complete without the chance to dip their toes in the river, which provided a refreshing end to a perfect day of exploration.
The weather couldn’t have been better; sunshine, laughter, and a real sense of achievement filled each day. It was a truly fitting finale for our Year 6 pupils, filled with challenge, adventure, and memories that will last a lifetime.
