Year 6 Explore Portraiture Through History
Year 6 have begun an exciting new Art topic focused on portraiture. As part of their learning, the children have explored how portraits have been created throughout European history, tracing their development from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance.
They have looked closely at how styles, techniques, and artistic approaches evolved over time, gaining a deeper understanding of the purpose and detail behind portrait work. To begin their practical work, the pupils have been creating Renaissance-style pencil drawings, inspired by the work of renowned artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. They have carefully considered proportion, shading, and detail to bring their portraits to life.
As the topic progresses, Year 6 will continue to explore a range of artistic styles and genres, developing their skills and creativity all the way through to modern, 21st-century portraiture.
