Year 6 Explore the Art of Portrait Through a Range of Styles

This term, Year 6 have been on an exciting artistic journey, developing their skills in portrait drawing through a variety of styles and techniques. They began by focusing on self-portraits, learning about the structure of the face and the correct positioning and proportion of facial features. This foundational work helped pupils gain a deeper understanding of the human face and how to capture expression and individuality in their drawings.

Building on this, the children explored the distinctive style of Vincent van Gogh. Inspired by his bold brushstrokes and expressive use of colour, they created a series of vibrant and imaginative portraits that reflected both their understanding of his techniques and their own creative interpretations.

This week, Year 6 turned their attention to the exciting world of animation, specifically exploring anime-style portraits. They studied the key features that define this popular style, such as large expressive eyes, dynamic hair, and simplified facial structures and applied these to their own work. The result was a fantastic and diverse collection of anime-inspired portraits, showcasing both their technical skill and artistic flair.

Throughout the term, Year 6 have shown great enthusiasm, creativity and focus. Their growing confidence and ability to adapt to different styles have been wonderful to see.

Well done Year 6, you should be incredibly proud of your artistic achievements!
