Year 6 Explore the Streets of France

This term, Year 6 have been discovering the sights and sounds of a French town as part of their “En Ville” topic, learning the names of places and practicing how to ask for, give and follow directions.

Lessons kicked off with an exciting, hands-on activity using dice to encourage spontaneous French speaking. Pupils then put their new skills into action through role play, using their own hand-drawn maps of a French town to navigate conversations and give directions. This active approach made learning both practical and fun, and the children loved it! Later in the lesson, pupils embraced a creative digital task. Using iPads and the online languages platform Linguascope, they produced comic strip dialogues, carefully choosing locations, characters, and speech bubbles—and of course, writing in accurate French, complete with accents!

Over the past few weeks, Year 6 have also expanded their vocabulary and strengthened their understanding of French grammar structures. Mrs Kilbey has been thrilled with their progress, particularly their ability to construct longer, more complex sentences using verbs, nouns, and the key vocabulary.

It has been fantastic to see the children combining creativity, technology, and language skills in such an engaging and memorable way!
