Year 6 French: Ready for Normandy!

Anticipation was running high in Year 6 this week with their eagerly awaited trip to Normandy just around the corner! In preparation for this incredible adventure, pupils have been fully immersed in French language learning, with recent lessons focusing on fun, practical, and confidence-building role play.

This week the classroom was transformed into a bustling French marketplace and café, where children used Euro coins and props to practise ordering ice creams, drinks, and souvenirs, all in French, of course! With menus in hand and eager voices ready, pupils took on the roles of both customer and vendor, giving them a real sense of how to use their language skills in everyday situations.

Through this immersive activity, pupils strengthened their French vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation skills, all while learning the etiquette and phrases they’ll need to interact with local shopkeepers and café staff during their time in Normandy. The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to speak French in a meaningful and practical way.

It was particularly encouraging to see the children grow in confidence with each interaction, overcoming any initial nerves and embracing the challenge of real-life language use. From choosing their favourite flavour of glace to counting out Euros to pay for a souvenir, they were fully engaged in every moment.

As their departure date approaches, we’re sure Year 6 will make the most of every opportunity to put their hard work into practice. Their attitude and effort in lessons have shown they’re more than ready for this cultural and linguistic experience.

We wish Year 6 a fantastic trip filled with fun, learning, and unforgettable memories, and we can’t wait to hear all about their adventures when they return. Bon voyage!
