Young Rugby Players Kick Off the Season in Style

King’s Hawford’s U10 and U11 boys made an excellent start to the rugby season this week, taking part in festivals filled with enthusiasm, teamwork and promising performances.

U10s

The U10 boys enjoyed an excellent first hit out of the season at Slingpool against KSA and The Elms.

In conditioned touch games, due to the hard ground, there were signs of a good season ahead. New additions Rory and Leo acquitted themselves very well in their first ever experience of competitive rugby, aided by our more experienced players.

Frank, Sammy and Billy provided us with guile and evasion, whilst Casper, Rupert and William gave us pace out wide. When we needed a more direct approach, Alfie and Chester were on hand to provide the go-forward.

There were many excellent moments in attack, and great endeavour in defence as the boys worked hard to improve from the first game to the last. A promising start.

U11s

Facing strong opposition from King’s St Alban’s, Winterfold and The Elms, the U11 boys produced some impressive performances that highlighted the progress already made in training. Their handling skills were a particular strength, with quick passing and confident decision-making allowing the team to move the ball effectively across the pitch. Equally pleasing was the excellent support play on display, with players working hard to create space and provide options for teammates in attack.

Beyond the rugby itself, the festival was played in a very positive and supportive environment. The boys represented the school superbly, showing respect for officials, opponents and each other throughout the event.

It was a fantastic occasion and an encouraging start to the season, providing a strong foundation on which to build in the weeks ahead.
