Pupils delight in welcoming Grandparents to school

Grandparents’ Day is always a highlight of the academic year for the majority of our school community and this year was no different. It forms an integral part of our Arts Week programme and on a beautiful blue-sky day our pupils gathered excitedly on the top fields, surrounded by a sea of smiling grandparents. One by one the pupils were united with grandparents and the crowd quickly dispersed as the pupils eagerly guided their grandparents off for a tour of the School.

It was lovely to watch as our pupils gave their loved ones a tour, taking in their classrooms and favourite haunts. Grandparents spent time proudly pouring over school books and the many colourful displays of work.

After the tours pupils took part in a fantastic concert in the marquee, where grandparents and loved ones were treated to a variety of wonderful performances from our pupils.

Reception kicked off proceedings with an enthusiastic performance of Okki Tokki Unga, complete with Boomwhackers and drums. Each year group performed with confidence and gave high energy performances. Year One sang and signed Animal Songs, Year Two sang Say Hello To Summer and Year Three’s song Now That Summer Has Come was a perfect choice, given the fantastic weather on the day.

Year Four showed off what a talented bunch they are by not only singing Green Song but also acting as their own accompaniment. Pupils played along on drums and a range of their own instruments. Year Five then wowed the audience with their exceptional linguistic skills in their song Give It All You Got and Year Six smashed the high notes with their take of Shine by Take That.

Brass Group played two wonderful pieces: Pop Rock and Guava Guy. Junior Choir gave a beautiful rendition of Ocean Commotion and Day Off and our Award-winning Senior Choir shared their show-winning songs from the Cheltenham Festival:  I am The Wind and the Bare Necessities. It was very clear to see why the Choir had enjoyed such success at the festival.

Performances from Dance Mix broke up the musical numbers. We were also treated to some spoken-word, with two Year Three pupils sharing their winning poems from this year’s Poetry Slam competition.

The Concert concluded with all our Prep pupils joining together on stage for a rather rousing performance of Katy Perry’s Roar.

After the concert guests were invited to join pupils for refreshments on the top field. As the sun shone, pupils could be seen enjoying scrumptious cakes with their loved ones and the ice cream van proved very popular given the glorious weather with which we were blessed.

We would like to extend our thanks to all of the lovely grandparents who joined us for this wonderful occasion.
