This Week in Sport: Highlights & Achievements

Monday 10th March

Year 6 Girls’ Football Match v Winterfold House School – Mrs Clark

On Monday, all the girls travelled to Winterfold House School to take part in their first football match. We fielded three teams, each rotating to play against the opposition.

A big thank you to Mr. Hooman, who kindly refereed the games and was highly impressed by the talent on display from both schools. The matches were competitive, and the girls showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.

Congratulations to Ariya, Izzy R, and Yifei, who were voted ‘Player of the Match’ for their respective teams!

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and it was fantastic to see them competing with such energy and determination in yet another sport.

Well done to all the girls!

Tuesday 11th March

U9 Stinger netball tournament at RGS The Grange

This was a lovely friendly tournament against 7 other local schools. The U9 girls have just started playing 5 a side netball and it was such a lovely afternoon to practice these skills. The rotations were hard as the girls had to remember where they were allowed to go. This will get easier the more they practice. There was some super netball on show with some brilliant interceptions by Maddie, Amber and Savannah, while Elodie, Iris, Poppy and Daisy worked hard to bring the ball up the court to try and score some goals. It was lovely to hear that they all really enjoyed the tournament and want to play more netball, excellent!

U8/9 A Football vs. Winterfold and King’s Hawford – Mr. Hooman

The U9/8 football team showed significant improvement in their recent fixtures against Winterfold and King’s Hawford compared to last week. Both games were close and competitive, showcasing the team’s progression.

In these matches, the team demonstrated better teamwork by maintaining their shape and effectively using the space on the pitch rather than following the ball. This disciplined approach allowed for more organised play and better opportunities to control the game.

A standout performance came from Matthew, who was undoubtedly the player of the day. Playing up front, Matthew displayed exceptional skill and determination. He worked tirelessly to regain possession and used his speed and skill to go past defenders, he really did deserve a goal on Tuesday.

Overall, the team’s performance in these fixtures was good and they continue to show promise and development.

U8/9 B Football vs. Winterfold and King’s Hawford – Mr. Jenkinson

On Tuesday afternoon, seven boys from Year 3 and 4 represented King’s St. Alban’s in two exciting football matches against Winterfold and King’s Hawford at Winterfold School.

The first match saw St. Alban’s face off against King’s Hawford. The boys played brilliantly, with Charlie scoring two well-taken goals to secure a 2-0 victory for St. Alban’s. His clinical finishing helped put the team in control, and the boys were thrilled with their performance.

In the second match, St. Alban’s played Winterfold. After some excellent team play, Archie M capitalised on being unmarked in the penalty area and put St. Alban’s ahead. Winterfold soon equalised, but St. Alban’s remained determined. A standout moment came when Jeremiah delivered a fantastic pass through to Charlie, who controlled the ball well, dribbled past the Winterfold defence, and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to secure a 2-1 win.

The boys were elated with their two victories, which were a testament to their teamwork, effort, and perseverance. However, there are still areas for improvement, particularly in focus and concentration during matches. These will be key areas to work on as the team continues to develop. Well done to; Archie, Charlie, Gabriel, Hugo, Jeremiah, Magson and Max, who all played their part in helping to make it a really successful and enjoyable afternoon!

As always, thank you very much to the parents who came along to cheer on the boys.

U8/9 C Football vs. Winterfold and King’s Hawford – Mr. Atkinson

This week, we took an U9/8 team to Winterfold for a triangular football tournament with the hosts and King’s Hawford. At times, we showed really good energy and defended really well, with Milan and Daniel making some strong tackles, and Max making some good saves. We only conceded one goal across the afternoon. In attack, George was really busy and his dribbling often put us into good positions, creating  scoring opportunities. The highlight of the afternoon was a thunderous shot from Archie H, that flew into the corner of the goal, giving the goal keeper no chance.

Wednesday 12th March

U10/11 Netball Matches vs. Monmouth and Llandaff – Mrs Clark

On Wednesday, our Year 5 and 6 girls travelled into Wales for an exciting triangular fixture against Monmouth and Llandaff. The journey was filled with laughter and music, as my bus enthusiastically sang along to their favourite tunes, setting the tone for a fantastic afternoon of netball.

The girls showcased impressive skills throughout the matches, demonstrating how much they have progressed this term. It was wonderful to see their teamwork, determination, and growing confidence on the court. Their hard work was reflected in the results, as all four teams secured a clean sweep of victories—a fantastic achievement!

A huge thank you to Monmouth for organizing the fixture and for their warm hospitality. Well done to all the girls for their effort, energy, and sportsmanship!

U11/10 Football v RGS Springfield

It was a slightly different format to the afternoon on Wednesday as RGS Springfield only brought one team over to us. To ensure the maximum number of boys were involved in these fixtures, two KSA teams played in a triangular with the single RGS team. Overall, the standard of football was good, and the boys are progressing well.

In Team One, there were two standout performances from Oscar T and Freddy H. Both players looked composed on the ball and showed excellent skill in gaining possession and turning it into attacks. Their ability to control the game and create opportunities was impressive.

In Team Two, Ben F stood out with his strong performance. He played well, demonstrating his growing skills and contributing significantly to the team’s efforts.

Overall, the focus remains on the development of skills, and it is clear that the boys are improving each week. Well done to all the players for their hard work and dedication.
