Junior Journalists Reporting from the Boundary

This week in After School Club, our Junior Journalists have been busy developing their writing and reporting skills. As part of the club, Year 6 pupil Josh wrote an excellent article reflecting on his experience at a recent cricket tournament held at RGS Worcester.

Through the project, pupils have been encouraged to think like real reporters by sharing events from their own perspective, recalling key moments, and capturing the excitement of school sport through their writing. Josh’s report gave a fantastic insight into the atmosphere of the tournament and the experience of representing the school in competitive cricket.

It was a wet start to Friday’s cricket tournament but that did not dampen our spirits. We were excited and optimistic for the day of cricket ahead. Our team (Josh, Nell, Romi, Haadi, Max and Theawhen we arrived got practicing straight away. Wknew our first game would be a tough one. We were playing RGS A’s, they were the host team. I went and did the toss with the RGS captain and one. I decided to bowl first. Romi opened the bowling with a solid over taking one wicket. Then Haadi bowled. RGS hit a few more runs in this over, but it looked good. Then Nell bowled, she got one wicket but then got hit for two fours. Then I had a bowl. I bowled a good over, nearly taking 2 wickets. I was annoyed that I didn’t get a wicket, but we were all positive. Then Thea bowled the last over. We got hit for two sixes and 3 fours. RGS got 63. We felt a little disappointed, but we knew we could chase this score. Max and Nell opened having a good partnership. Then Max got out, Haadi came in. Haadi got out to a good ball, Romi came in. Romi and Nell stayed in but we lost.

Overall, we stayed positive, but we were a little unhappy about the result. Then we played Monmouth. I won the toss and we bowled first. Romi bowled, then Haadi, then I had an over taking two wickets, then Thea then Nell. They got 51 a chaseable score. We felt ready to chase. Max and Nell had a good partnership again then Max got out after a long time. Thea came in. We lost narrowly, annoying. Our last game in the group was against Winterfold. We bowled first again. Romi and Haadi both took a wicket. I bowled well not taking a wicket. Then Thea and Nell bowled. Thea got two wickets. They got a decent score. We were ready to bat. Max and Romi opened. Romi got out and I came in. Max hit a few fours and then I hit one. Then after a few balls I got out. Max stayed in to retire. Thea and Haadi were at the crease. Haadi got out and Max came back in.

We lost by ten runs. Then we had lunch. We watched Hawford win against Bablake. Then it was our turn. We were playing against RGS second team. I won the toss and decided to bat first for a change. Max and Romi opened. Max got out then I came in getting out on a golden duck. Thea came in and had a partnership with Nell. We got 43. Romi and Haadi bowled well taking a wicket between them. I bowled a low scoring over. Thea then got a wicket. Then Nell bowled last over they needed 14. They needed 3 off the last ball but they hit a four. We were very disappointed. We knew that we had tried our best but nothing else could be done.
