Year 4 Discover the Treasures of Sutton Hoo

Year 4 have been stepping back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons, with a particular focus on the remarkable treasures discovered at Sutton Hoo.

The Sutton Hoo discovery is one of the most significant Anglo-Saxon archaeological finds. Buried within a large ship, the treasure included an incredible collection of jewellery, weapons, coins and the famous Sutton Hoo helmet. The wealth and craftsmanship of these artefacts provided fascinating clues about the importance and status of the person buried there.

Inspired by the intricate designs and beautiful craftsmanship of the Sutton Hoo jewellery, Year 4 became designers and created their own Anglo-Saxon brooches. They carefully developed patterns, selected bright colours and considered the details that would make their designs authentic and eye-catching.

It has been wonderful to see the children combining their historical knowledge with creativity and imagination. Their finished brooches are a fantastic reflection of the craftsmanship and artistry that made the Sutton Hoo treasures so remarkable. Well done, Year 4!
