Year 5 Blast Off into Space

In Science Year 5 have continued their exciting Earth and Beyond topic by exploring how the Sun, Earth and Moon move through space.

The children investigated how the Earth rotates on its axis, creating day and night, and explored how the Earth and Moon orbit larger bodies. To bring these concepts to life, they used balls to model the movements of the Earth and Moon, helping them to develop a clear understanding of the difference between rotation and orbit.

The children were particularly amazed when we explored the scale of our Solar System. They discovered that, if our model were made to an accurate scale, the Sun would need to be approximately the size of the school hall! This certainly gave everyone a new perspective on just how enormous our Solar System really is.

It has been fantastic to see Year 5 approaching their learning with such curiosity and enthusiasm as they continue to explore the wonders of space.
