Year 1 Explore the Night Sky Through Their Senses
Year 1 have been enjoying learning all about Bonfire Night and used their creativity to write some fantastic firework poems. Working independently and in small groups, the children explored how fireworks look, sound and feel, using their senses to inspire their writing. They came up with some wonderful adjectives to bring their poems to life!
Our new topic, In the Night Sky, has also given us the opportunity to investigate our senses further. The children ventured into our classroom dark den, where they used their senses to try to identify mystery objects hidden inside a bag. There was plenty of curiosity and excitement as they used clues to work out what might be inside!
In Maths, we have been reinforcing our understanding of whole and part numbers, focusing on number bonds to 10 and using addition to explore how numbers fit together. The children have also been practising counting backwards from 20 and 10, as well as recalling how to find one more and one less than a given number.
We will continue building on these important Maths skills next week, alongside more exciting learning inspired by our night sky topic. Well done Year 1!
