A Day of Adventure and Creativity at Bishops Wood Forest

Year One pupils at Bishops Wood enjoyed an exhilarating day filled with exploration and creativity, thanks to the meticulous planning of Mrs Redman. The visit was a perfect blend of education and adventure, offering a variety of activities that kept the children engaged and excited throughout the day.

Mrs Redman organised an impressive array of activities for the children to choose from, ensuring that there was something for everyone. The wand-making was a particular favourite, where children crafted their own magical wands using twigs and other natural materials found in the forest. Leaf printing also captivated the young artists, who used leaves and paint to create beautiful prints. These activities not only fostered creativity but also helped the children develop a deeper connection with nature.

Another highlight of the day was den-building, where the children worked together to construct shelters using branches, leaves, and other natural materials. This activity encouraged teamwork and problem-solving skills, as the children figured out the best ways to create sturdy and comfortable dens.

In addition to these hands-on projects, the children had the opportunity to explore a different forest school site. This change of scenery provided fresh experiences and a chance to discover different aspects of the forest ecosystem. As they wandered through the woods, the children observed various plants and animals, sparking their curiosity and deepening their appreciation for the environment.

Throughout the day, the children also took time to produce sketches in their homemade sketchbooks. These sketches allowed them to capture the beauty and diversity of their surroundings, honing their observation and drawing skills.

The day concluded with a captivating story session, where everyone gathered to listen to a tale that complemented their outdoor adventures. Following the story, the children participated in a spirited game of hide and seek, with laughter echoing through the forest. One teacher humorously remarked, “I’m still hiding,” capturing the playful and joyful atmosphere of the day.

Overall, the visit to Bishops Wood was a memorable experience, blending learning with play in the heart of nature. The activities not only entertained the children but also enriched their understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
