Netball U11A Team vs Hymers – Miss Jordan

The girls enjoyed playing their first netball match against the touring team from Hymers. It was a really exciting game. All girls rotated through the 7 positions. We played 6 quarters in all, changing position at each quarter so it was a real mix up and exciting to see the girls in a variety of positions. After the first quarter it was 2-5 to Hymers, end of second quarter it was 3-6 to Hymers, end of third quarter it was 7-7, end of fourth quarter it was 9-7 to KSA, end of fifth quarter it was 9-8 to KSA and at the end of the game it was 10-11 to Hymers. It was such an exciting match, and it could have gone either way. I was particularly impressed with the girls’ come back and attitude towards the changing of positions. They were disappointed not to win, but they could see how every possession and goal counts as netball can have a fast-changing score. Well done all! Special congratulations to Ariya, who was chosen by Hymers as their Player of the Match.

Netball U11B Team vs Hymers – Mrs Clark

On Monday, the Year 6 B Team played their first netball match of the season against the touring Hymers team—a much-anticipated fixture that has proudly featured on our calendar for the past eight years. This annual match is always a highlight, and this year was no exception, filled with excitement and a strong spirit of friendly competition.

The team was eager to get on the court, and although they started a bit slowly, it didn’t take long for them to shake off the early-season cobwebs. Once they found their rhythm, they moved the ball up the court with confidence and solid teamwork. The match flowed end-to-end, and it was Tilly who broke the ice, scoring the first goal for our side. Shortly after, Rosie added a superb goal from near the edge of the shooting circle, demonstrating impressive accuracy and technique. We were also thrilled to have Daisy make her debut for St Alban’s—she showed great resilience jumping into her first game on her first day with the team.

The match consisted of six sessions, each lasting 8 minutes. By the third session, we were holding a slim lead at 2-1. Phoebe then stepped up to widen our advantage, scoring two more goals that brought our score to 4-2 as we entered the final session. However, Hymers was not ready to give up and managed to score two late goals, resulting in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

A big well done to all the players, and special congratulations to Tilly, who was chosen by Hymers as their Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

Rugby U11A v Hymers College – Mr. Jenkinson

The U11 A team were excited by the prospect of playing a touring team from Hymers College. With a history of bringing strong rugby teams on tour to Worcester for a number of years, the boys knew that this was going to be a tough fixture. After a tense opening few minutes, Hymers College were the first to break the deadlock with a well-worked try. Whilst the boys showed great teamwork and resilience to keep the Hymers attack out, further tries followed before half time. After a quick team talk about the importance of being quicker to the ruck and securing the ball, the boys promptly tried to put this into practice, with great leadership, from Ben. Archie, Charles, Will and Uriah all ran well and made good ground when they received the ball, whilst Harry, Arlo, Leo and Jake all showed great strength and determination in both attack and defence. Although Hymers College won the match, the boys all demonstrated really good perseverance to end the match with a well-worked team try, which was finished by Ben.

Well done to all of the boys who played – especially Player of the Match, Charles, who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, making tackles, turnovers and securing the ball at the breakdown!

POTM = Charles

Rugby U11B v Hymers College – Mr Hooman

We warmly welcomed a strong Hymers College side to Slingpool Fields as part of their sports tour. They had travelled a long way from Hull to face us, bringing both skill and determination.

The first half saw our team start off a bit slow, and Hymers quickly capitalised on a few mistackles, scoring several early tries. A quick team talk halfway through the first half, however, sparked a remarkable turnaround, and from that moment on, it was like watching a different team.

 Crispin and Luca were outstanding with the ball, consistently gaining valuable ground and creating offensive pressure. Freddy ran with power and determination, and once he hit his stride, the Hymers defence struggled to contain him. Brody, making his return after spending the first half of the term on the sidelines with an injury, slotted back in seamlessly. His tackling was superb, and he provided calm control over the play, showing no signs of rust.

 A special mention goes to Henry S, who has been showing fantastic progress each week. This match was truly his best performance to date, and he fully deserved his Player of the Match award. His dedication and growth on the field were clear for all to see, making this a standout game for him.

POTM: Henry S

U8 Girls Hockey Tournament Report – RGS The Grange – Mrs Clark

 On Tuesday, all our Year 3 girls participated in an exciting hockey tournament at RGS The Grange. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with team spirit, skill, and determination. The girls gave it their all, demonstrating remarkable teamwork and resilience both in attack and defence.

 We played a total of four games, winning three and narrowly losing one. Tiegan was on fire, scoring an astounding 12 goals across the tournament, while Olivia added another goal to the team’s tally. The final game saw Maren awarded “Player of the Match” for her outstanding performance.

 A huge well done to all the girls! Their progress since the beginning of the term has been exceptional, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. Keep up the great work, team!

U8 Rugby Festival at RGS – Mr Hooman

Our U8 KSA rugby team had an exciting afternoon at the RGS Rugby Festival, where they once again proved to be a pleasure to coach. Their enthusiasm for the game and their camaraderie on the field is a joy to watch, and the standard of rugby they continue to deliver is brilliant.

The focus of this festival was on supporting the player with the ball, and through the three matches, the boys made great strides in this area. As the games progressed, their teamwork improved significantly, with more players actively supporting each run. One area for continued improvement is getting the ball passed more quickly when tackled, and the team is eager to work on that in games and after school club.

With so many standout performances, it was difficult to choose just one Player of the Festival. However, Archie M. clinched the award this week due to his incredible speed, agility, and commitment to support his teammates even when he didn’t have the ball. His ability to slip past defenders and his unselfish support play made a huge impact on the team’s overall performance.

POTM: Archie M.

U11 v The Downs and The Elms – Mr. Jenkinson

Wednesday afternoon saw 13 boys from Year 6 travel to The Downs to represent King’s St Alban’s in two rugby matches against The Downs and The Elms.

Despite losing Leo for these matches, and only having two days to recover from Monday’s tough fixture against Hymers College, the boys were keen to get back to playing some running rugby. However, with some tired legs in the team and the damp conditions making it harder to catch and pass the ball around, the boys weren’t able to produce their best rugby on the day. Despite this, the team did demonstrate some impressive teamwork in both attack and defence and showed that when they passed the ball down the line, ran straight, and worked the ball into the space on the pitch, that they were able to score some really good team tries. A clear example of this was when Freddy showed great strength to burst through a gap in the opposition’s defence to run clear and score a great individual try! Archie also looked threatening on the wing, when the team managed to pass the ball out to him, whilst captain Ben continued to lead by example. There were encouraging performances from Benjamin, Henry, and Luca, who all made tackles and demonstrated an improved understanding of the game and their respective roles in it. Will, Arlo, Charles, Uriah and Jake all did their best, as always, to set up our team’s tries and prevent The Elms and The Downs from scoring, but a special mention must go to Harry, who carried the ball really well and made plenty of ground every time he received it, as well as being at almost every breakdown, securing or stealing the ball!

The matches served to highlight a few areas for development, which will be focused on in the boys’ Games and rugby club sessions next week. Well done to all of the boys who took part and thank you very much to the spectators who came along to support the boys.

POTM = Harry.

U10 v The Downs – Mr Rowley

On Wednesday, the U10 boys took a trip to The Downs. Despite some initial disappointment about playing touch instead of contact rugby, the boys quickly embraced the challenge, focusing on scoring tries through skilful play rather than physical tackles.

Their performance was outstanding. Support play and spatial awareness were the best we’ve seen all season, a testament to the hard work these six boys put into developing their skills during playground breaks and lunchtimes.

One standout moment came when Pip T executed an impressive one-handed, behind-the-back pass to Josh B-R. Josh drew in the defenders, timing his pass perfectly to set up Max G for a try. It was a fantastic afternoon, though I can imagine the boys are eagerly awaiting a return to contact rugby!

Thursday 7th November

Swimming Gala – Mrs Clark

On Thursday, we held our first swimming gala in over 12 months, and it was a fantastic return to the pool for pupils, parents, and staff. We were delighted to host teams from Hawford, RGS, and Winterfold, creating an electric atmosphere with wonderful school spirit all around.

The children put on an incredible display, showing off their skills in both individual and relay events. There were some outstanding swims, with every child giving their best effort. Galas like this continue to be one of the highlights of the year, and the buzz on poolside was truly palpable. Although some students started out a little nervous, by the end of the event, every child walked away with a smile. A special thanks goes to Miss Woodger for her hard work and running this event so smoothly.
