Fantastic Forest School Experience for Foundation Pre-Prep Schools

Earlier this week, Pre-Prep children from both King’s Worcester Foundation Prep Schools came together for an extensive Forest School experience.

Eager and hugely excited, the children from King’s St Alban’s travelled the short distance across the city to visit their friends at King’s Hawford for some adventures in the great outdoors. The children and staff of King’s Hawford were equally excited, and jumped for joy as they welcomed their counterparts from King’s St Alban’s.

With excitement at an all-time high, and a whole host of activities planned, there was no time to lose. The morning was dedicated to the two Reception cohorts and, after a quick reminder of the rules of Forest School, the children really got stuck in!

Children developed skills of kindness and resilience as they took on a team building activity involving moving materials in order to navigate from one area to another without touching the floor. It was a pleasure to witness friendships, some old and some new, flourish between the two schools. Another group demonstrated their creative skills by creating natural artwork from flowers, which they pressed themselves. Others demonstrated their creativity by getting a little mucky in order to create clay models decorated with things they had found in the Forest School setting. Pupils were also keen to explore on an insect hunt; with magnifying glasses in hand, it was amazing to see what they discovered: insects of all shapes and sizes!

During morning break, children from King’s Hawford were delighted to share their play area with their King’s St Alban’s friends; the children from both schools had a fabulous time exploring the adventure playground. After break the children delved back into their activities before it was time for a tasty packed lunch and, unfortunately, for the King’s St Alban’s Reception children to depart.

After lunch, it was Years One and Two’s turn. Equally excited as the morning cohort, pupils arrived from King’s St Alban’s to join their peers from King’s Hawford, and once again the combined group took part in a number of activities based within the two Forest School sites at King’s Hawford.

At the end of the afternoon session, it was time to bid a fond farewell to one another, safe in the knowledge that not only had they had a fantastic Forest School experience but also that firm friendships had been formed that will no doubt develop further as they go forward on their King’s journey. Pupils and staff look forward to the next joint adventure between the two Pre-Prep Departments.
